What To Eat When On A
Diet
Many people spend hours poring through books and websites
trying to figure out what to eat when on a diet. With all of
the popular diets out there, it is easy to see why there are so
many people who are confused about what kind of diet they
should choose and which diet is the most effective.
The good news is this: the best diet that you can follow is
simply a healthy diet based on the food pyramid we all learned
in school. Believe it or not, for many people weight gain isn't
about what they eat, but the size of their portions. That said,
here are some tips to help you figure out what to eat when on a
diet.
1. Before beginning any sort of diet plan, schedule a visit
with your doctor. Together the two of you can figure out a
target weight and a daily calorie intake that will keep you
healthy and make it possible to burn enough calories via your
exercise routine to help you lose weight.
2. When in doubt follow the food pyramid. There is no doubt
that your doctor will emphasize this as well. Forget about
eliminating carbs or beginning a raw food vegetarian diet. Your
body needs all of the things laid out in that food pyramid.
Remember, it isn't always what you eat, but how much of it you
eat that dictates how much weight you gain or lose.
3. In order to quickly and healthfully cut your calories,
replace your usual beverages (sodas, juices, coffee, and tea)
with plain water. Water is calorie free! What's more, it is
important that you drink between six and eight glasses of it
every day in order to stay healthy. By switching to a water
only beverage plan, you could easily cut hundreds of calories
from your daily intake while still staying perfectly
healthy!
4. Stay away from refined grains. Always opt for whole grain
foods like whole grain breads, wheat flour, etc. Instead of
bleached and refined flour, look for natural and unbleached
flour. Opt for wheat bread instead of white. Refined flour is
stripped of almost all of its nutritional value and instead of
being good for you; it adds empty calories to your diet.
5. Don't cut out your favorite junk foods completely. Most
diets fail because people think that they need to completely
eliminate all junk food. This isn't true. You can allow
yourself some junk food from time to time; you just want to
make sure it only makes up a small percentage of your diet. In
fact, by allowing yourself treats from time to time, you'll
increase the likelihood that you'll stick to the healthy part
of your diet!
These are just five tips to help you figure out what to eat
when on a diet. An easy rule of thumb to follow is this: when
in doubt stick to natural and healthy foods while leaving the
processed and packaged foods on the grocery store shelves.
